We had a catastrophic failure of a NAS drive recently, We found that we needed to recover the data from the drives. Neil and his team were able to quickly analyze the drives and determine that they could recover all of the data.rnThey completed the recovery work within a couple of days and sent a listing of all files on the NAS. That listing was great and gave us confidence that what was recovered was as we expected.rnA lesson learned about NAS storage for us and big thanks to Datatrack for recovering our data and turning it around so quickly.

Very Promising start with these guys, Neil very informative on the telephone, arranged a free pick up with a courier. I had it packaged and ready and left it behind a flower pot. The courier refused to collect it as he required a signature, it so I had to send it myself. The evaluation took an extra day and the recovery was completed 10 days early. They demanded immediate payment and got quite pushy because I said I couldn't pay until the next month. Also the file list they sent me I found very confusing and the replacement hard drive was expensive. Happy to see all my data again though.

Although these guys recovered my data it took longer than they quoted and cost me over £300 more than I thought it would cost. Having never used data recovery before I don't know if this price was competitive.

Had evaluation done by another data retrieval company, and simply could not afford the amount they were quoting. Saw UK Data Recovery on line and decided to ask them to offer a quotation. This was extremely competitive, and as a result they did the work for me. Correspondence throughout has been both helpful and most of all friendly. I would certainly recommend to anyone, who has had the misfortune of losing any data, UK Data recovery.

After backing up my photos and videos plus other important information to transfer to a new computer - I lost the lot when transferring! The external hard drive failed. My local computer guru suggested that I contacted Datatrack who came to my aid. Yes it costs but photos from the birth of your grandchildren are lost for good -a no brainer - so I contacted Datatrack. They were very professional and keeping me informed through their Website. I also telephoned them as it took perhaps longer than I thought but they did have parts to wait for etc. However I now have the data I lost and I am much relieved. An excellent service.

We had a seagate hard drive fail on us. No warning, no slow down, just the drive die and not being seen by the bios. This is when we found out that there was gaps in our disaster plan. We needed the data on that drive back. I had been recommended datatrack labs by a colleague who told me about his dealing with them, which where more than positive. I have to agree with him that his service that he received was not a one off. From the initial contact about getting a quote to us sending the drive away and being analysed i was kept in the loop. A very helpful diagnosis report on the steps that where taken was also a highlight of the process. Needless to say we got all the data back from the broken drive delivered back to us in the time we expected. Professional outfit that gets results done is the the best way i can describe datatrack. I will have no hesitation in recommending these guys for any of your data recovery needs. I am very happy customer with his data back intact thanks to them.

Being saved from the possibility of losing some irreplaceable photographs
The service from UK Datatrak Labs was a brilliant life saver. From their receipt of my call
To the return of my treasured photographs was brilliant albeit slightly more expensive than I first thought
But there would be no price that would have lost the photographs.

My external Hard drive, for no reason decided to fail and lost all my files/photos from last 8 years :( I found out about Data Recovery by chance on a google search which lead me to Datatrack Labs. With its 5 star rating, voted 2nd of the top 5 companies, and good reviews i filled out a a quote form via their webpage. Their service is instantaneous, they rang me the next day to organise a courier to collect my drive and sent me e-mail confirmation of of the process/prices/evaluation etc...excellent!! I am a complete novice with technology so didn't think it would cost too much, I had a heart attack when was given a total price, this is not a cheap process but they are the cheapest company around and recovered all of the data on my hard drive which i was more than happy about. Datatrack labs customer service and correspondence is faultless!!...they respond super quick, are polite and answered any questions i threw their way. I would definitely recommend them...i now have an amazing new tiny, good quality external hard drive with all my recovered photos on it :) Thank you very much, your service is much appreciated!

Seagate external HDD failed. Described symptoms to Datatrack who managed my offered a suggestion to the fault and set my expectations about the likely cost. Disck was sent to them the same day. 2 days later I had a list of the files they were able to recover, all but the one I was working on when it crashed, but they could recover the latest copy I saved, so not much would be lost. The price was in line with what they had suggested it could be on the economy turn around service. I paid and my data was returned on a brand new Seagate 1Tb HDD 2 weeks earlier than I had expected. Job took 5 working days. From start to finish, excellent communication. Highly recommended and no hesitation who to call if I need recovery services again..

My Desktop PC failed to boot up and it turned out to be failure of the HDD. I sent the drive to Datatrack after a friend had recommended them. The technicians informed me that the heads had failed on my drive but the data was recoverable. The recovery took around 10 days as they had to contend with surface damage in the drive, but fortunately all the data was recovered. The cost of the recovery was completely fair compared to some of the quotes I'd had back from other companies before my friend gave me some great advice.

My cameras SD card failed whilst on holidays but had lots of pictures that I wanted to keep. I had the card looked at by a local computer repair shop but they were unable to recover anything and told me it was beyond recovery. I contacted Datatrack Labs for a second opinion and was told that they could possibly recover it if I sent it to them. Success! I now have my pics back, which if Id listened to the first company would probably have been binned when I considered throwing the card away.

My laptop hard drive was found to be having an odour of burnt components. My locale I.T. store could not carry out the fix and suggested the Datatrack Labs in the U.K. as they have dealings with them in past times. The information from the device was recovered in superb timescale and I can now continue my efforts as a teacher with my valuable information intact.

I Needed to retrieve data regarding invoices etc for my clients Interior Design projects that I had recently completed. I was charged £79 for the recovery which took 8 days. I thought the cost was a little excessive, however all the data was recovered so I suppose I have to give them credit for that.

My memory stick failed causing me to lose all my recent work for a book I have been writing on Steam Engine restoration. I had a backup but this was short by some 30 pages as I hadn't backed up as often as I should have. Datatrack Labs were so prompt in their response, and within days they returned my data on a new stick. I could never have rewritten the lost pages to their original form, so I was very relieved and grateful for their service.
Excellent work.

My files and documents from a recent project were lost due to corruption problems. As an architect this meant months of time and work potentially gone in one fell swoop. After my initial panic I was referred by a business associate to Datatrack. They immediately put me at ease and calmed the situation and reassured me they would do their utmost to retrieve the data. Fortunately, it was recovered and as a result I completed the project which led to my recent promotion. All in all, I'm extremely grateful for a service that was second to none.

To my delight all of my precious memories were recovered and are now safely backed up twice for future piece of mind.

I ped my 120gb external hard drive on the floor. Initially I sent it to Fields of Data Recovery and paid them a £150 inspection fee. I was told that the 'read write heads' were damaged and would need to be ordered. 5 weeks latter I still had not heard anything and miraculously when I requested a full refund and the return of my drive, I was informed that data recovery had been unsuccessful. I then forwarded my drive to Data Track Labs. Initially I received a very prompt diagnostic, but no indication of the possible success rate of a recovery. On emailing the company I received a rather curt response from their director Michael Owen that there was a 50% success rate. However things deteriorated further and he attempted to withhold my drive despite repeated requests to return it. He accused me of leaving negative feedback on review websites and even phoned me on a Sunday night at home making all sorts of threats, including taking legal action against me if I did not remove the threads (which he believed I had posted). It was only after that I involved a third party that my hard drive was returned. What is interesting is that it was forwarded to another company, that upon inspection advised me that there was no possibility of any recovery. My experience was not a pleasant one. I am resubmitting my review as I have noticed I left a 5 star review on my previous, when it was far from this. In fact I have already received an email from Michael Owen accusing me of lying, yet he is unable to explain how he was able offer me a 50% possibility of recovering data from a drive which another company diagnosed as totally beyond repair?

***Following evidence submitted to UKDRP we have decided to publish a statement from Datatrack Labs Ltd***

Statement from Datatrack Labs Ltd

The above review is written by Phillip Bougeard, a School Teacher. He teaches at Prince Rupert School near Hanover in Germany.

As a result of Phillip’s conduct and lies we have had no choice other than to make public the circumstances of this case.

Phillip has blatantly told lies and has been very dishonest, not the sort of behaviour you would expect from a School teacher.

Phillip Bougeard first approached us for help on 22/05/2013 at 18.46. He stated that “Western Digital 120gb external hard drive. The unit was ped on the floor and while still functioned (powered up) would not register. Sent to Fields Data Recovery who said that the read/write heads had been damaged and needed to be replaced. They have claimed that they have not been able to recover any data. Unit has clearly been opened. Can you help?”

He spoke with Rob, our customer support person at the time. Rob explained to him the possible charges as it already had been opened by Fields Data Recovery. We charge £100 plus VAT to evaluate any hard drives which have previously been sent to another data recovery lab or any disks which have been opened. Rob kindly organised for us to waiver the assessment fee as he said Phillip had already had a bad experience and he appeared to be a nice chap.

We evaluated the hard drive and sent the results to Phillip on 06/06/2013 and received this response on 07/06/2013. We quoted £399.99 ex VAT with a deposit payment of £100 plus VAT payable upfront.

“Dear Sir/Madam, Referencing you your email response rearding the recovery of data from my external hard-drive dated the 6th of June 2013. You appear to have given a multiple diagnostic and very non specific record of the issues relating to the damage and recovery of data from hard-drive. The diagnostic and level of repair seems to invariably alter depending on the level of the service I require, yet there is not a specific analysis or detailed report of the actual damage, analysis or level of repair/replacement parts that are required. To exacerbate the situation I have an email response from Datatrack Labs dated the 22nd of May 2013 that states the repair needed based on an on-line analysis of replacing the read/write heads and retrieving the data would not exceed £299.99. While I am based at a BFPO address and working for the Military of Defence, I do no see how this should disadvantage me in receiving this offer as Military post may take slightly longer to have reached you. This certainly would not be a case of supporting British Troops, Help the Heroes or the MOD who you claim to do business with. Finally I made it very clear to your very enthusiastic customer representative who called and assured me, that you were far more reliable than the previous one that I had attempted to use, I would not PAY ANY MONEY until you had demonstrated you had actually retrieved the data. If the £299.99 price can not be honoured and you can not demonstrate that you have been able to retrieve any data, then I kindly request that my hard-drive be returned as you have only performed a diagnostic which you have not even supplied any details about and is advertised as a free service. Previously I have parted money to no avail and am sure that you can appreciate as a reputable firm, that I do not want to spend any more money until actual data has been retrieved. If you do not feel that can oblige within this or honour the original quote of £299.99 then I kindly request the return of my hard-drive as soon as possible to the following address using recorded delivery: Phil Bougeard Prince Rupert School Rinteln BFPO 31 UK Please note that this is a military postal address so only Royal Mail can be used as a return service. Regards Phil Bougeard”

We responded the same day and emailed Phillip this....

“Hi Phillip, According to your case notes you originally spoke with Rob our customer service advisor. He was good enough to arrange a free evaluation for you as we normally charge £100 to look at any hard drives which have been previously opened. He also arranged for us to honour our special offer as we do not normally apply this to jobs declared as unrecoverable at other firms. If you are not prepared to spend any money upfront then you will have to accept you will never see the contents of the hard drive again. No reputable company will look at the hard drive without payment as the disk has been operated on elsewhere. Also you have received the special offer, if you look at the quote it clearly states the recovery fee is £299.99 plus VAT and the cost of parts are £100. I can see in the job notes that Rob told you there may be an additional cost for parts up to £100. Also it clearly states at the bottom of the £299.99 special offer email that the maximum recovery fee does not include the cost of parts if required. Why should we be at a financial loss in attempting recovery of your data when there is a chance actions taken before we received it may result in it being unrecoverable? This is not a viable business model considering how many 'cowboys' are offering this service. Also the report of what is wrong with the hard drive is accessible via the web link on the written quote. You have to accept that no matter where you send the device you will have to pay a recovery attempt fee or an evaluation fee as the disk seals have been broken. These fees are likely to be more than what we are asking. The fact you have already paid out money to another company has not relevance to us. If you decided to use our service originally then we would not be asking for any money to attempt data recovery. If you would like us to arrange the return then please pay £20 by following this link www.datatrack-labs.co.uk/make_payment.asp You are also free to arrange your own pickup if you do not wish to pay £20. Best Regards Michael Owen Datatrack Labs Ltd”

On Sunday 09/06/2013 we discovered a negative review submitted on another data recovery review website. The reviewer called himself ‘Bill’ and used Phillip’s email address. The IP addressed revealed they were from Hanover in Germany. They made remarks in the review which corresponded to the circumstances and the failure of Phillip. There is no doubt in my mind that Phillip deliberately set out to damage our reputation because we would not work on this hard drive on the terms he demanded.

On the same Sunday I called Phillip in order to ask him why he left such a review after we had done him a good deed, he was adamant he did not write a review but got extremely flustered and concerned when I mentioned that I had the IP and email address which belonged to him. He continued to be quite defensive and then went into a data privacy rant at the review website raising concerns about the website’s data protection policy. Two points here, I did not mention which website the review was submitted to, and 2, why would someone with nothing to hide be so concerned about the data protection on a website they had never submitted a review to?

As a result of my disgust at Phillip’s actions, I withdraw our offer of a data recovery service and then arranged for the hard drive to be returned.

To conclude Phillip Bougeard lied about his review submission and is continuing to lie to this day. Also what is concerning that after several months he decided to submit another review regarding our services and at the same time be full of praise for a company which deemed his hard drive as beyond recovery. He has also failed to submit any sort of review about the company which took a substantial amount of money off him and he had nothing to show for it. It would appear he is now being used as a puppet by a jealous rival.

More evidence of Phillip’s difficulty with the truth is when he has stated above that we could recover 50% of his data. This is not true as this is something which is impossible to know without first performing the work, what we explained to Phillip is that we believe there may be a 50% chance of extracting some data. Also Phillip states another company has deemed to the disk to be beyond recovery, this may be true for them but we have recovered drives which they could not offer recovery services for in the past, also throughout our history we have proved beyond doubt that we do recover hard drives which are deemed unrecoverable at other ‘reputable’ data recovery companies. We have the reviews to prove it!

As Phillip has not responded to any of our emails we have had no choice other than to make our response public. Phillip has given us a 1 star rating even though we did not provide him with a data recovery service.

With so many companies offering a data recovery service it is really difficult to decide which company to use. How do you know they are the real deal? It's a big decision sending your precious data to a company you have found on the internet. I'm glad I checked here first and read the reviews. Everything they promised, they delivered on, ok it wasn't cheap but cheap compared to what others were charging. So if you ever plug the wrong power supply in to your hard drive then make sure you call Datatracks Labs.

Exceptional results from the data recovery. They recovered everything after the hard drive was pulled from a table by a boisterous 2 year old. This is how it went down.... Googled data recovery in Preston, found Datatrack Labs (I know based in Cardiff) completed the online form, within 3 minutes I received a phonecall from Neil, Neil advised me on the process, the possible costs and offered to arrange a free collection. The hard drive was collected the next day and I received the evaluation report the very next day. They advised on what was wrong and provided a quote. I agreed to their economy plan and received a list of files within 7 days. Seeing the list made me very happy so I parted with my money and received a new hard drive 72 hours later. All the photos recovered, 2 years worth of irreplaceable memories.

DataTrack Labs recovered all critical data otherwise lost on a laptop hard drive after a sudden catastrophic failure.

All data, including directory structure was recovered and put on a replacement drive. This is above and beyond recovery.

The entire experience working with DataTrack Labs was outstanding. I would have no hesitation hiring DataTrack Labs in future and highly recommend.

Many thanks for your services.

I sent my portable hard drive to this company with high expectations. They informed me that my drive had severe platter damage (whatever that might be) and informed me that they could only recover 40% of the data. I was expecting to have a better result than this considering the website claims of high success rates. However, despite this they were very polite and informative throughout the process.

We recently sent a RAID 5 server drive from the office (that had gone offline for no reason) to Datatrack Labs for recovery. The collection process was smooth and easy and on the plus side, free. rn24 hours later I received an emailed report regarding the faults, along with the cost, and was extremely happy with the competitive price quoted, most of the other companies we'd approached either could not work on this drive or quoted massive prices even before they had assessed it. Datatrack recovered our valuable business data in full and achieved it in an impressive time-scale. We will definitely recommend them and they will be the first port of call for us if we ever have this happen again.

Very dodgy industry so it was important to find the right company. Fortunately I found Datatrack Labs. My 2 tb hard drive had been ped, damaged head unit. I was very dubious as I had to pay 100 pounds upfront as the platters were damaged with no guarantee of success. I expected the worse but then I got an email confirming a full recovery of data. I paid the remaining balance of 300 pounds and received all my data 72 hours later. Five stars.

I ped my laptop and subsequently thought I'd lost all my precious travel photos. I shopped around for a data recovery place and sent my hard drive to one initially, it was only afterwards I read up on the company and recalled my drive. I then sent it to DataTrack Labc and Michael personally assured me how they would try and fix my drive. Collection was easily arranged and my drive was sent off, I was kept informed and the drive was returned to me within 7 weeks. Nearly all of my photos and videos have been restored, I am over the moon!

This industry can be a minefield having discovered this myself after my hard drive failed. I called around several companies, also read thoroughly the claims made on each of the websites, promises of low cost data recovery, no data no fee, the best data recovery technicians in the World. I decided to choose a company which had offices all over the UK (it turned out it was just a off point), they claimed a recovery rate of over 90% and stated they were one of the biggest and best data recovery company's with the best facilities. I thought I made the best decision for my data and my wallet. Well in hindsight I should have realised that claims are easily made on the internet and it is best to obtain impartial feedback, but the proof is in the pudding. The pudding turned out to be a complete disaster! I was £250 out of pocket and with no data no show for it, I then decided to get a second opinion so I choose Datatrack in Cardiff, I was a bit dubious at first as they made the same claims as the other companies, it also cost me another £120 to get the drive assessed as the hard drive has been previously operated on. (So now I am £370 down!) The diagnosis revealed internal component failure (read/write heads) and damage to the media surface. Datatrack then requested I pay an upfront parts fee of a further £120, again I was extremely suspicious but as I was already £370 with nothing to show for it I decided to go for it. If Datatrack were successful they said there will be an additional payment due of £999.99 ex VAT due to the amount of damage and the recovery would be up to 4 weeks to complete. As the weeks passed I felt like the biggest fool in the world, nearly £500 down and all my precious data lost, half way through week 4 I received an email, it was titled.."Data Recovery Complete - Payment Required" I read through the email and opened the file list which was attached, all my data was listed, every single crucial file, I was overjoyed! I completed payment of the recovery fee and within 72 hours I received a new 1 tb hard drive which contained the recovered data. I went through it with a fine tooth comb and only 15 files out of the 5827 files recovered were corrupt. I turns out that if I decided to use Datatrack in the first place the recovery would have cost me only £399.99 ex VAT as they had to charge a premium custom fee to undo the damage caused by the other company, although I am kicking myself I'm glad I decided to get a second opinion with Datatrack as I might never have managed to recover my entire collection of photographs which hold huge sentimental value to me. SO a huge thank you to Michael, Neil and the rest of the team at Datatrack and shame on the sharks which are patrolling the data recovery waters.

I am completely satisfied with the service I received from Datatrack Labs Ltd and I would recommend them to anyone who has lost data. After having a previous bad experience with another company that I had used to recover data from the same drive.
Datatrack Labs kept me informed of the process and they are reasonable in price and I am grateful for the job they did on recovering my files.

Datatrack Labs Ltd's Response to this Review: Thanks James. We were happy to restore your faith in the industry.

I sent in my external hard drive to Datatrack Labs to have the data recovered. The hard drive was ped (a short distance) and was making a clicking noise. Datatracks assured me at least 50% of the files that were extracted would be usable. What they didn't explain was that they weren't able to even extract or recover the majority of the files! Not a single one of the video files was usable (they were all corrupt) and multiple folders that originally contained hundreds of photos were completely empty. They delivered the data on a poor quality hard drive that they charged £75 for. They were a week late on their promised delivery date. And multiple times my emails were ignored and questions unanswered. All in all it was a complete waste of £500 and the service was awful.

Datatrack Labs Ltd's Response to this Review: We can prove that Dana has provided misinformation. The above is not accurate.

Seagate GoFlex hard drive failure. Performed Google search for Seagate Go Flex Hard Drive failure repair companies in Derby. I found Datatrack Labs. Datatrack Labs recovered all data from my Seagate Go Flex hard drive (ped) but could not repair it as it was badly damaged. (They do not offer a repair service). It took a long time but I am happy for the result. Quite expensive but reliable.

Datatrack Labs Ltd's Response to this Review: Thanks Igor : )

My HDD was goosed and contained a lot of pictures with sentimental value. Because of this the guys at Datatrack worked hard doing everything they could to recover anything that was salvageable. Highly recommended.

Datatrack Labs Ltd's Response to this Review: Thanks Jamie, we do try to go that extra mile.
