If you've ever potentially lost data you'll know the feeling of abject terror you feel while trying to resolve the issue. The team at R3 Data Recovery called me within minutes of me submitting an enquiry, even though it was past 8pm in the evening. Their service was friendly and professional and they obtained a good level of recovered data, which really got me out of a tricky situation.

The following list is a very short summary of my experience of your service.

My address was incorrect for pickup of drives “your mistake”
I was Liaising with people in sales not technicians and being told information which was expressed as assumptions not hard facts; Technical question being answered by “sales team”
I have been in mid proceedings with one nominated person then someone different contacts me and picks things up. Generally this has given me a substandard service as the overall communication from your company was poor at best. The failed attempt to recover my data has been dealt with by at least 6 different people
Further to the poor communication I have received NO response to Countless email request, questions and voice mails.
No evidence to back up anything I have been told
No contact or s from R3 for over a month after making payment for parts
Contradiction in the information I was given
Funded mechanical recovery failed to gain any data
You have not sent me all my property back

It is stupid not to back up data.
It is also expensive to recover that lost data.
But R3 Data recovery provided an excellent service to the stupids like me. The contact was honest and friendly. The disc was collected from my workplace, regular contact was maintained as the recovery took place, And the data returned via secure carriage.
Not cheap but at an acceptable market prices, excellent service.
100% recommend
The only better solution is to BACK UP YOUR DATA.

Sent my hard drive with suspected Heads fault quoted £399+VAT (8-12 working days).
after a month waiting they have sent me an email that parts arrived and start working on it.
After another week called me up saying that they have tried to rebuild the hard drive and it needs another 2 rebuilds (cost= extra £720 inc. VAT up front).
After another 2 weeks time got informed the hard drive is not recoverable.....

Avoid - and never believe their NO DATA NO FEE adverts - always find a way to get money of from you...

Awful experience. Mangled communications and terrible attitude on on the phone. I sent my drive in for a 'free quote', was told the fee would be £129 plus vat, then a bill turned up for £238.80 - and a long and tedious back-and-forth occured over email. Though they admitted they should have requoted as soon as the job turned out to be more complex they refused to honour the existing quote. When I called to try and work out what was going on Andy Butler gave me to understand that they were very busy and I was 'mucking about'. Oh and they charged me £18 in courier costs to get the drive back (unrepaired). Nice.

A huge thank you to R3 who managed to fully recover date from not one but two corrupt hard-drives. They were quick, helpful and reasonably priced compared to many others. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them to friends.

I spoke to Andy at R3 on the phone to report my Mac Pro Hard drive as it needed disk recovery, which contained very important files. I must say, my first impressions of the R3 data team was that it was obvious that these guys knew exactly what they are doing and I could fully trust them to retrieve my data. I had also spoken to other data recovery services but I found this one the best by far. My drive issues were fully explained to me so I could understand what the problems were and was not blinded with technical terms. I had a few questions that I sent via email and the email service was fantastic also, a guy called Mike responded very fast, even at 10 o'clock at night my questions were answered. I would definitly recommend these guys highly as my data was fully recovered and sent back on a new drive.

When my hard drive went down I did a Google search for data recovery and uncovered some real horror stories about certain companies purporting themselves data recovery specialists, so I decided to do some research before I sent my precious data away for recovery. There are all sorts of rouge companies out there that will for example ask you to send them your drive for analysis and a free estimate, do not do this, as once they have your drive they can charge you what they like and you are still not guaranteed to get all or any of your data back after paying out huge sums of your hard earned cash for donor parts that you did not need, or would not have helped in the first place. You may also be charged elevated quotes for low cost recoveries in the pretence that they were forensic recoveries. Even worse there are some companies out there that will send you a template report without even looking at or attempting to recover your data or you could just be told that your drive is unrecoverable, as the company in question cannot even be bothered to go through the hassle of recovering data when they find out that your drive is in a bad way (like mine was), and it will take them more time and attention than they can be asked to give, in other words they would just take your money and run. So if you have a drive in need of data recovery, do yourself a favour and read this review before you make a decision. As already mentioned I did a lot of research before I eventually chose R3 Data Recovery, and have spoken to, and had quotes from at least six data recovery companies, so I thought it my duty to write a report of my findings to stop small businesses and individuals from being ripped off by rouge data recovery companies declaring drives unrecoverable, leading to unnecessary data loss. I am not saying in any way shape or form that the other companies listed here are rouge, read on, and you will see the reasons why R3 Data recovery were my data recovery company of choice. And remember this, a reputable company will be able to give you an accurate quote from the error description you give them without ever having to see or examine your drive and R3 Data recovery were spot on with the fault diagnosis, the quote that they gave me and there were no hidden extras, even though as I was soon to find out, my drive was one of the most degraded they had seen out of all the drives they had recovered during that current month (August 2014). Whether it was luck or fate the first company I contacted were R3 Data Recovery, who quoted me £249 + VAT, plus the cost of a drive to put the recovered data back on, ok that sounds good a fixed price quote, they are not asking me to send the drive in for assessment and they have already won me around by telling me they need a drive to put my recovered data onto, which is telling me they are confident they can recover my data, brilliant I thought, I like the sound of these guys, all boxes ticked, although I have a list of companies here so let’s see what the rest have to say. Next I had a quote from Data Recovery Direct whose economy service was £240-265, which seemed fair enough, although I wanted a fixed price quote so I moved on. MjM Data Recovery were next and they quoted me £599, which seemed a bit excessive. The Data Hospital quoted me from £175 + Vat, and also told me that it would be difficult to diagnose and provide precise pricing without evaluating the media, so they were out of the equation straight away. My next quote was from The Data Clinic who told me that recovery cost would be dependent on fault diagnosis, so in other words they were not prepared to give me a quote until I sent them my drive, they also charged £95 for diagnosis and gave me an estimate for a standard service that would cost between £350 - £650 plus any parts, they are now out of the running. I then spoke to TRC Data Recovery who told me that those My Book drives are hardware encrypted, and my data may not be recoverable, thanks mate that’s just what I wanted to hear, and that the drive itself could have two faults, drive firmware, or failure of read write heads, and if the fault is the former the cost will be 275 + vat if the fault is the later therefore mechanical the cost will be 375 + vat. What unnerved me about TRC was that they told me the fault was more likely to be the later as, get this they had about 6 hard drives sitting around at the moment with the same issues. 6 hard drives just sitting around, to me that meant this guy does not care about my data and I feel sorry for the customers whose drives were just sitting around, so obviously these people were out of the running then I was told that either way we will send you a detailed report of what can be recovered and it will be a 5 day turn around and we will send a courier to collect the drive. So they also wanted my drive before they committed to a fixed quote, so, that would make seven drives sitting around, no thanks, next. Data Track Labs were next on my list, they quoted me £175 plus VAT, again I hear the old subject to assessment and that the price could go up to £400 plus VAT, I then had several calls and email from them stating that the cost for recovery for a drive with the kind of fault my hard drive had was now on some kind of special deal and that the cost was now only £175 plus VAT, then in the same sentence, please note if the HDD is suffering from multiple faults additional charges will apply, oh really, I am sure you just told me that the fault could not be diagnosed without assessment. So with the hard sell, the mixed messages, and the special deal for my precious data, this lot were completely out of the running. The next company I spoke to were Fields Data Recovery, same story, send us your drive and we will assess the fault, send you a report, and the cost for recovery could be anywhere between £2-400 depending on what they find, they also tried the hard sell and I was called at least three times by 3 different people, no thanks, I have a mind and I can make my own decisions, bye. So after all this calling around and emailing for quotes I decided that R3 Data Recovery were the right choice and I am so glad, from start to finish R3 Data Recovery were trustworthy, professional, reliable and approachable. I am an Apple developer and in my wisdom I decided one day to take all the data from 3 of my external USB drives, a 500 GB, a 300 GB and a 250 GB, which had been purchased as separate drives and caddies and combined together and which I have had for many years without issues, into one 2TB Western Digital My Book. Result I thought I now have all my data in one place, the drive seemed reliable, although a bit noisy but this suited me better than swapping around three drives, which were now condemned to a different life, after a format I gave one to my daughter, one was securely erased and binned and the other, which is a NAS drive with all my training on, I thought I would keep as is, I also had a lot of the stuff backed up to DVD, so I thought I was relatively safe. Wrong! 3 weeks before the warranty expired the WD died in style, no warning, no data, the WD had died on me completely, it was dead, the light just kept flashing, when I plugged it into my laptop the drive was not recognised, and did not even show up, when I plugged it into my Mac the Mac didn’t acknowledge the drive either, Oh dear I’m in trouble now. As even though I had some of my data backed up on DVD, the thought of copying all that data from DVD back to hard drive made me shudder, the data on my drive, which was currently running at 1.6 Terabytes, had been saved over a period of 14 years or more and I have thousands of backup discs all stored in zip cases, the data on the drive was sorted and the data on the discs is mixed and spans many different discs, some have not even been written on, and just say disc 1, disc 2, etc. Not to mention the shelf life of some of the earlier discs is shall we say well passed, although anyway, I was not too concerned with what I had backed up, it is what I did not have backed up that concerned me. And what I did not have backed up was all the latest stuff I had been working on, namely all my artwork for a rework of one of my early Apps, the artwork for my last 3 Play Store Apps and Artwork for my last 5 Apple App Store Apps, plus lots and lots of code, all the different App release versions, and the Play Store Key codes had not been backed up to disc, now without any of this a re-release or an is now impossible. We are talking all my Photoshop, Illustrator & Flash documents which are irreplaceable & thousands of lines of code, to rework all of that art and re code all those Apps would have been unbearable and all of it had been backed up to the WD Hard Drive that had just died on me as I got complacent and became too reliant on that HD as it was so much easier to copy everything to the drive as opposed to burning discs as well, big mistake! I was in panic mode now, so got out the screw driver and prised the drive case off and removed the SATA hard drive with the intention of plugging it into my desktop PC and attempting to recover the data myself, no chance, little to my knowledge the WD My Book drives have an encryption chip built onto the ports, so the data on the drive was unrecoverable without using this bit of hardware that WD decided to activate on some of their drives, just in case one day you decided to add password protection, but to be fair to Western Digital, Andy has since told me that my drive was in a very bad way and that It is testimony to the quality of the drive that we were able to nurse the heads through without the need of a rebuild, and even if this drive had no encryption chip I would have never been able to get the data back as the drive was in such a state that I needed some professional help. How my drive got this way I have no clue, the drive has been babied since new, has never left my house and has been sitting by the side of my Mac for nearly two years, I only moved it a couple of times, and one of those was when I bought the drive back home after purchase, I did ask Andy how my drive could have got so bad and he told me that the damage could have happened anytime in the drives life but been managed by the drives electronics up to the point, more of the drive was being used and more bad sectors were mapped by the error checking functions to the point they could not manage all the bad sectors, more testimony to both Western Digital and the knowledge of Andy, who by the way, is the Operations Manager over at R3 Data Recovery. So you just never know when your hard drive could fail on you and your precious data could be lost forever, notice I said could! When I realised this was not something that I could try and fix, that is when I decided to Google data recovery and as mentioned above, out of all the companies I spoke with, I am so glad that R3 Data Recovery were my company of choice, I am so thankful to Andy and Mike for the awesome job they did in recovering all of my data, not just a few bits here and there they managed to recover every single file and directory perfectly, and as already mentioned, the data on my drive was running around 1.6 Terabytes. Everything was smooth sailing from start to finish, for me anyway as I now knew my drive would be in safe hands. Andy sent a courier to collect my drive which was promptly collected the following day, even though my second contact when I had finally made my decision to go with R3 Data Recovery was on a Sunday at very early hours, Andy emailed me back straight away as he was still working on another job, impressed, I was. During the process I spoke to Mike on the phone for an who informed me that they had to build a custom heat sink so the drive would stay on long enough to get the image from the drive and the heat dissipation was to prevent the motor bearing over heating due to friction as there were just short of 4Billion sectors on my drive and several million of those were bad. One of the worst they had seen in a while, and that even new heads would have struggled to improve the read times by a few percent, and that the only cause for this would be a head crash, most likely during power fluctuations or a knock or , pointing to slight spindle to motor angle change, all very technical stuff, again making me feel confident that I had made the right choice in choosing R3 Data Recovery. While my drive was in recovery I was informed of every step of the procedure and also had a very nice courtesy email from Andy reassuring me that my data was in the process of recovery and that there was no need for concern, which was very much appreciated and went a long way to calm my peace of mind and as soon as the raw data image was on the recovery machine, Andy had the faulty drive couriered back to me so I could return the drive to WD for a warranty replacement, now that is what I call customer service. The recovery did take a bit longer than expected, but considering the state of the drive this was more than acceptable and as soon as my data was recovered from the image and copied to the replacement drive, that was promptly sent back to me with all my data intact and safe, so all in all they sent me three couriers, and recovered every bit of my data, I have no clue how they did it and I really do not know what I would have done without their help, as it certainly would have been the end of my App development days for the foreseeable future. I whole heartedly recommend R3 Data Recovery to anyone who is of need of data recovery, and would urge you to look nowhere else for the sake of your data and your sanity. In my humble opinion R3 Data Recovery are more than specialists they are genuine professionals. Shane Hogan ://mds.scaleviz.com

I was very impressed with their service - absolutely brilliant results with all my data being recovered and no fee upfront! My drive was taken by courier and all I had to do was wrap it securely ! I had all my data returned within the week ! Worthwhile and price was reasonable considering I had 10 years of irreplaceable information stored !

I am a computer professional, having worked in the industry for over 12 years. I contacted R3 data recovery for a quote on a damaged HD, i described this to andy butler as a click of death and informed him there was already an attempt to recover data from another firm which had failed. I let him knew that the cause of the drive failure is r/w head. I was provided with £249+vat quote as long as the hd is in the condition described.rnrnA few days later I contacted R3 again, this time to get quote on a different hd. This HD had a firmware failure. I informed him of this beforehand. The quote I received was identical £249+vat.rnrnHD (1) requires dis-assembly in a clean room and a few common methods used by any professional recovery firm with combination of head replacement or platter/discs removal, then use of specialized equipment such as salvation data or us equivalent to retrieve data by imaging software.I expect to pay £800-£1500 depending on the complex nature of recovery.rnHD (2) requires the use of SalvationData equipment to bypass manufacturer software and does not require hd to be opened in a clean room. I would expect to pay around £150-£180 for this service, yet a similar quote for a much worse conditioned drive puzzled me.rnI put this to Andy Butler, who avoided the question and firmly told me if the HD required to be opened then cost will def escalate. i pointed out the earlier quote was for a drive needed to be opened in a clean room was identical. How could the company justify charging a much simpler job in this manner?? I received no answer.rnrnQuote sent out to me stated FREE EVALUATION and FREE COLLECTION., as reinforced by Andy however T&C showed a different story. On order cancellation, customers can be asked to pay as much as £99 for evaluation and additional charges for collection and delivery. Andy dealt with the whole situation like a 'dear caught in the headlights' kind of a way. Quotes provided were unrealistic and designed to squeeze unsuspecting customer's pockets with no serious intention of a recovery. ABC DATA RECOVERY (liquidated), operates under the alias of R3 DATA RECOVERY should be avoided at all costs.

A company PC failed to boot up on Monday morning. R3 Data collected PC within 30 minutes of receiving "distress call". Kept me d throughout the day. Successfully recovered all data from damaged drive, copied to a USB drive and offered to replace damaged drive with new one, which I accepted. PC returned to me by 4pm same day, fully functional with backup copy. Great service and a lesson for all businesses- implement an effective data backup strategy!

As an editorial adviser constantly having to meet deadlines, I was devastated when catastrophe struck and my hard drive was wiped recently. Some documents spanned ten years and not all were backed up. The important files were saved on a memory stick but to add insult to injury, that was also disabled... by the dog. I had almost finished editing a book, with the deadline looming and a week's holiday booked. The work had taken me a few weeks and the thought of having to do the entire thing again was too much. Who could help? On an old laptop I googled data recovery and the first entry to catch my eye was R3 Data Recovery Ltd. I made a freephone call and spoke to Andy who reassured me that if anything could be saved, his team had the technology to do just that. He was honest and upfront with me about the cost and explained the process in terms that my non-technical mind could understand. I have to say that he pulled out all the stops to help with the problem and kept me fully informed of progress throughout. The end result was that some files were beyond retrieval, but the one in question that I was desperate for was recovered, saving me several weeks of extra work, not to mention the embarrassment of losing the lot. In addition, many more files were also recovered, including hundreds of artwork images that I feared were lost for ever. R3 are not cheap, but they detail their charges in advance so that you know exactly what the cost will be - and if the data cannot be recovered, there is no fee. I found Andy and his team to be absolutely honest and open with me from the beginning. I trusted them to do their best and they did not let me down. True professionals who were understanding of my situation, they were pleasant to deal with and treated me with respect as well as a great deal of patience. I hope I do not suffer a similar misfortune but if the worst should happen again, I will not hesitate to call on their services.

Having knocked my laptop off my coffee table, I discovered that my thumb drive was no longer working! Virtually all my records were on the drive including all my invoices showing outstanding amounts. After making a hundred and thirty mile round trip to North London where I wasn't possible to retrieve the data, I turned to R3 Data Recovery. Within 48 hours I was sent a list of the 'irretrievable' files, and inside of 6 days from first contact I had all the data back on a couple of discs. Just want to say thank you to R3 for a fabulous and fast service, well worth the fee!

This company pretends it is in London and if you visit their website cites address locations in EVERY single city in the UK. This is simply NOT true. After further investigation, I found out they are the same as R3 Data Recovery based in Sheffield and they used to be call ABC Data Recovery which went into liquidation quite a while ago. Giving misleading information is not a good practice and therefore affects this company's credibility

R3 data recovery came to the rescue after another data recovery company failed to recover my photos from a damaged iphone. This other company had my phone for 10 days and still said they were 'working on it'. R3 had my phone less than 2 days and the photos were all recovered and sent to me - no problem, no fuss at all. So thank you so much for such a brilliant, professional and efficient service.

I ped my 120gb external hard drive on the floor. Initially I sent it to Fields of Data Recovery and paid them a £150 inspection fee. I was told that the 'read write heads' were damaged and would need to be ordered. 5 weeks latter I still had not heard anything and miraculously when I requested a full refund and the return of my drive, I was informed that data recovery had been unsuccessful. I then forwarded my drive to Data Track Labs. Initially I received a very prompt diagnostic, but no indication of the possible success rate of a recovery. On emailing the company I received a rather curt response from their director Michael Owen that there was a 50% success rate. However things deteriorated further and he attempted to withhold my drive despite repeated requests to return it. By now I was extremely skeptical of the whole reliability of the services that many of these companies claimed they offered. I contacted R3 and only wish I had dealt with them from the outset. On receiving my drive, I received prompt correspondence and was informed when it would be inspected in the clean room. Shortly after this I was recontacted, to be informed that my hard drive was too damaged to retrieve any data and that they could return my drive or dispose if it. Very honest and up front service and while no data was recoverable, at least I was not given false hope or duped into parting with my hard earned cash, for a service that could never be delivered. Thank you R3, I only wish there were more creditable and honest companies such as yourself.

Data could not adequately describe the information I stood to lose from a crashed hard drive; precious family photographs, unique musical recordings and business documents representing many hours of work. R3 Data Recovery Ltd did an amazing job recovering our data. The data that had to be recovered was from the Suaienadh experiment (s://www.facebook.com/Suaineadh) which went into space on a sounding rocket from Northern Sweden in March 2012 but got lost during re-entry. 18 month later, the experiment was found by hunters above the arctic circle. During the 18 month, the experiment had to withstand snow, rain and temperatures down to -30C. After the recovery, it was important for us that the data on the CompactFlash memory card is handled with care so we send it to R3 Data Recovery Ltd. The support of the team was outstanding and within a day we already got the file list and the whole image on a DVD was send to us via mail within 3 days. We were able to recover all the recorded data. Thank you very much R3 Data Recovery Ltd to be our supporter and for the great job you did bringing our experiment to a successful end.

After 6 years my 40gb laptop harddrive packed in and was not recognised either by the laptop or as an external usb drive. Excellent customer service, everything happened within the agreed time frame, they send you a preview file of what they have found which you can check in excel or their easy to use file viewer. Would recommend them without hesitation based on my experience.

After I thought I had lost nearly 6 years of filmmaking work, R3 were able to tackle my damaged hard drive head on. Despite my drive being in a particularly ropey state, Andy and his team rose to challenge and ensured me that they would be able to retrieve the key pieces of data that I required, all within the initial quotation price.I am thrilled to report that they excelled themselves and retrieved far more than I anticipated. A highly recommended service. You can hear my full story at ://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4qlpIDJXzA

After accidentally deleting basically my entire business, I panicked. As a professional photographer it is pretty much a worst nightmare come true. I had two unedited weddings, all my accounts, and basically my whole world disappeared in a s ingle click. After picking myself off the floor I jumped on google. The first number I called in a state of panic was R3 data recovery, who seemed to pop up everywhere. After a short chat with Andy (who was very calm and reassuring), I had an inkling these were the guys. I called a few other data recovery 'experts' who didn't seem to have a clue and were willing to 'give it ago'. I had lost about 7 tb of data and obviously didn't want t o risk someone 'having a pop' at it. And so I called Any back at R3. Their service was incredibly professional. I was a bit worried as my device being a g-raid unit, I knew that the complications were there for retrieving the data. But these guys got it back no problem at all and at a very fair cost. Not only that, but they would answer the phone ANY TIME I called (and that included the initial conversation at 11.30pm on a Sunday night), and always kept me fully up to date with the status of my repair. Their dedicated drivers were always on time (exactly on time strangely enough!). They managed to recover all my priceless data in just a few days. I even had the chance to into their premises when I had a job up in Sheffield and their set up is mind blowing. These guys are professional, able wizards who performed the impossible and got my business back on track. I would whole heartedly recommend them. Don't settle for anyone else. If you're in a crisis and it feels like you;re world is going to end due to lost data, call them. If they can sort it they most definitely will :)

We are just about to launch an online services marketplace where we bring businesses and people together like never before. A slice of Google, Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter all rolled into one, providing a unique platform for businesses to showcase their work whilst at the same time offering them an unlimited amount of leads for just £9.99 a month.

We were in the final stages of development just before we experienced a catastrophic boot drive failure on our dedicated server where the development process was being managed.

Although we had local backups of our site there was other data on the failed drive which would have set us back a considerable amount of time in order to recover and restore. To make things worse, our hosting company UKHost4U had failed to setup a reliable and secure backup to the servers RAID drive and all our data had been lost.

We used the search engine we've built to power Approved Experts to run a search for 'data recovery specialists' in London and we found 58 companies together with their contact details. To save time we sent an email to every company requesting help with the recovery of the data.

Andy was one of the first people to contact me. The depth of his knowledge was impressive as he was able to give me an accurate diagnosis of the problem in a 5 minute chat on the phone and told me there was a very good chance of recovering the servers boot drive. He gave me a quote and confirmed he could turn the disc around in about 5-7 working days. As Andy at R3 data Recovery was the first person to contact me I thought I'd wait to hear back from others in order to make a more informed decision on who to send the disc to for repair.

It didn't take long before I realised who to go with.

R3 were under half the price of almost every other data recovery specialist I spoke to. His level of knowledge, professionalism, customer service and availability filled me with confidence and there was little doubt that they seemed to be the best guys in the market to trust with this job.

Within a few days they had received the disc from my hosting company, analysed the problem and informed me that the issue was due to 'bad sectors' which had ultimately led to the failure of the disc.

They managed to do a complete clone of the drive onto a brand new disc and confirmed they had recovered 99.9% of the data. Not only that but they also provided me with a comprehensive CSV file outlining the few sectors which couldn't be read or recovered. This allowed me to analyse those files to discover if any needed to be recovered or restored from another source. It turned out none of these files were of any significant value and a 100% recovery of the data was confirmed.

The disc was immediately shipped back to my hosting company upon where it was reinstalled to the server. The only problem we had was that the drive didn't actually boot up from the cloned disc but the data was clearly there on the drive. Instead, we made a manual local copy of WHM and Cpanel with all the active accounts to another drive and we were back up and running in just a few hours exactly as we were before.

R3's attention to detail, professionalism, reliability and value for money were simply head and shoulders above everyone else I spoke to. The decision to chose them was easy and turned out to be exactly the right choice.

They saved me well over £700 compared to other quotes I received and they no doubt did a much superior job.

If you're looking for somebody to recover your data I can absolutely recommend their services. You'll save a lot of money in the process and you're dealing with some serious industry pros.

Thanks again to Neil and Andy for their help.

I used this company before they were this, when they were Vensys and ABC Data Recovery, they charged me over £500 for a load of garbage service and nothing to any value was recovered. Avoid at all costs
